MAFDET (Making a Future Defining by Excellence & Thought)
MAFDET stands for Making a Future Defined by Excellence & Thought. MAFDET was founded by a group of professionals interested in eliminating the disparity in education, employment, and overall opportunity experienced by lower income individuals and minority youth in America. One of MAFDET’s core programs was established prior to its formal organization and has been delivered to school programs for over four years. MAFDET’s executive directors and staff are based in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and MAFDET’s activities to date have focused primarily on youth living in this area. However, MAFDET has conducted programming in the Midwest and Southeast, and MAFDET is expanding implementation of its programming throughout the United States.
MAFDET achieves its mission by delivering educational and behavioral development training in 4 key areas:
(i) Criminal Law Education & Crime Prevention
(ii) S.T.E.M. Education
(iii) Corporate Socialization & Etiquette Training
(iv) Cultural Exposure & Exploration
MAFDETS’s emphasis on the aforementioned subject areas is unique. MAFDET has chosen to center its attention on these areas out of recognition that many of the barriers to success in education, employment, and opportunity among its target demographic are a function of (i) criminal victimization and punishment and the ancillary negative impacts related thereto; (ii) a lack of participation in important innovative and technology based programs that develop the foundation for the world’s future career industries; (iii) a failure to assimilate and transition properly into spheres of professionalism; and (iv) an inability to connect with employer hiring representatives and supervisors as a result of divergent cultural experiences. MAFDET helps youth by giving them the necessary tools to overcome these obstacles.
